Games We Play: A Novel by Toni Westbrooks

Is the future really going to be any different than the present when it comes to true love? Probably not! No matter what planet you’re from!

When a handsome, bi-colored, albeit flawed, sixteen-year-old Terpaqi male meets a beautiful, precocious, African-American, fourteen-year-old Earth girl, a multi-world friendship develops and love will never look the same again.

In 2160, two teenagers meet on a school bus headed to a Space & Science Camp on Earth by mere chance. Four years later they reconnect at the Allied Space Academy and University and begin to build more than a friendship; they will assist in saving their people, even as the two worlds threaten to tear them apart. Quall Jildar, a bright yet rather formal and “business-like” alien teen from planet Terpaq, and Amanda D. Jade (AJ), an intuitive, precocious, tough-as-nails girl, embark on a multi-world wind journey of friendship and love.

What each world doesn’t know yet is that through their forbidden relationship, they will discover the key to the greatest mystery of the universe: the origin of life! And it will all begin with another truth, proclaiming out loud that companionship knows no species, no racial or interstellar differences. Quall and AJ will soon realize that destiny has chosen them to work together, for which they may have to pay a very high price.

I met you at the school today and I’ve already read sixty pages (before life intervened and I had to drop the book….) I want to tell you how much fun and how much range of emotion I’ve had in just sixty pages! Paticularly interesting is how everyday life seeps in and deposits itself into this story; the odd juxtaposition to it all is that while I was reading “Lincoln Logs,” we were on the way to and from Jeff City on an errand. I didn’t see the chapter name until later. So that’s what they’ll do with a Land Grant University in the future! I knew it!

There’s that summer camp the 4-H has at Lincoln…or is it workshops, but as a former 4-H project leader, I was finding myself bursting with little gasps of laughter, making my husband wonder what was going on…. Well, anyway, you sure do live here, don’t you!

I’m going to share this with my riding students when I’m finished reading it. It hits the spot!

Thank you for laboring after-hours and between-times on this book. Have you a fine satirical mind, or what? Games We Play ?????? Bureaucracy. Education. Politics. Love.

    Yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3
Many thanks, also, to the young ladies who gave me the bookmark!!!!!

  28. Kim Schotte says:

finished it. loved it. can’t wait for Songs We Sing.

  29. Toni says:

@Kim S, I’m so glad you loved it!!!!!! Thank you for the wonderful review. Working hard to bring our characters back and boy, you won’t believe what has happened to these poor people. Love makes us do so really stupid things.
Again, Thanks for the wonderful review.
    Toni

Awesome book. I loved every page. I laughed, cried, and was saddened. I have never been so emotional about a book and I read a lot! I got the kindle version, but I will be ordering one from your site since it says I can get an autograph. Can you please tell me when the next book is coming out? Or when can I pre-order it? I’m way too excited to see what happens next.

  31. Kim Schotte says:

I was just checking to see if your sequel was out yet! I hope my dear character-friends don’t behave too badly…. Of course, then they’d be fairly easy to recognize, wouldn’t they?
